Sir Gilbert Birdsall

From "The Great, Parliamentary or Bannerets' Roll, a 17th.C. manuscript book by Wm. Burton who copied fourteen mediaeval rolls.

 It lists active knights and includes in the Lincolnshire list Gilbert Birdsall, Vt. 2 barres gemels (b.g.) in chief,3 molets gules (3*g). Comments include "Gilbert Brideshall; Commissioner of Array, Lincs.1300. Served v. Scots.

Adam Coppandale of Beverley, quer., Gilbert son of Gilbert de Bridesale, def., of one messuage, 8 tofts, 8 1/2 bovates and 50 acres of land, 200 acres of pasture, 30s. rent, and the fourth part of one knight's fee in Hugate (=Huggate near Pocklington): To hold (subject, as to the messuage, lands, and rent, to a term of 7 years, which Nicholas de Hugate has; and as to the fourth part,together with the homage and services of William de Gerge,William de Middelton, Hugh Pacok, John Colyn, Simon deHugate, Richard Peny, Anabel Peny, Thomas the Smith [faber], Robert in the Dike, Adam Hambald, Roger Kanaf(?),William atte Marre, Roger Knave, and Eliseus Topyn, and their heirs) to Adam and his heirs; he gave 100 marks.
